| For this costume, Lilacwire bought pleather, though in retrospect she wished she had found a fabric that was black on front and back. Hers had white backing. The good thing about this heavy pleather was that it supported the belts' weight admirably. Many of the belts were made out of the same material as the dress, and a few of nylon straps.
The corset was also Lilacwire's first experience with boning and
lining. She didin't really like working with it, and much more
preferred the sleeves, which were detachable. One of the favorite
things she learned while making the costume was to sew down the seams,
which would pucker because the pleather was so thick. The most
intensive detailing is the hand-colored lace overlays.
