The Queen of Hearts costume was inspired by the Anime Expo Midnight Tea competition. Lilacwire's wanted to explore a costume in the realm of the Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, which is why she chose the insane queen.

Patterns were taken from various sources, combining the bustle, skirt, and jacket from various eras of time. None are supposed to be extremely accurate to history. The bustle, for instance, is filled with netting rather than boning to give a bustle "proper shape." Ideas for the bustle and other aspects of the queen's costume came from the original wood carvings done for the Alice in Wonderland book.

After searching everywhere for a gold crown to go with the gold costume accents, Lilacwire chose a silver one because none of the gold ones had the right motif. The silver crown contained the cross on top and was the right size to be the typical "tiny hat" that EGA and EGL cosplayers strive for.

The other Queen of Hearts cosplayer featured here is Fatwetdog.
